Organized by the El Masnou Photographic Association (FEM), the ‘Zampa I Héctor Zampaglione Photojournalism Award‘was born with “the purpose of supporting, recognizing and disseminating photojournalism and documentary photography“With this idea, they will value projects carried out by media professionals who narrate an event that happened during the years 2020-2021 with a first prize of three thousand euros in cash for the most outstanding work.
The name of the award It is a tribute to the photojournalist and activist Héctor Zampaglione, who died in September 2019 and who was the founder of the FEM and an affiliate of the UPIFC Union of the Imatge. Zampaglione was a renowned Argentine photographer with more than 50 years of experience and “with his informative work he contributed widely to the dissemination of photographic culture“.
The jury that decides the winner and finalists of the award is made up of “prestigious professionals of graphic information“; specifically, in this first edition they will be Silvia Omedes, consultant and agent of photographers, Rosa Maria Calaf, a well-known RTVE journalist, and Pepe Baeza, graphic editor of El Periódico de Cataluña and editor-in-chief of Photography at La Vanguardia (although the participation of Gervasio Sánchez was originally announced).
The decision and the award ceremony will be held within the framework of the XIII Masnou Photography Conference, between October and November 2021 (if nothing prevents it). During these days different promotional actions will be carried out, including a group exhibition in which the five photographs of each finalist of the new contest will be included.
In any case, all this will be framed in a set of activities that aim to “be a meeting point between professionals in the sector and the interested public, as well as students of photography, journalism and photojournalism“.
They can participate, in a free, all professional photographers of the media residing in the Spanish State, as well as the groups that certify the professionalism of the participants (as specified in the bases), and the term to participate will be open June 1 and 30, 2021.
