Left the administration …

Bruno Rezza decided to ditch his formal office clothes to dedicate himself to taking wedding photos. He is an administrator by profession, but a photographer at heart. Tell us, how did you start in the world of photography?

I studied financial management, nothing to do with photos. I started as a hobby, my aunt gave me an analog camera and I started taking photos of my dog, friends and family. And when I worked as a cashier in a bank, they called me to take photos of a wedding, the funny thing is that they paid me more as a photographer than in my work. Little by little I began to train in wedding photography, my education was mainly in workshops and online workshops.

Did weddings attract your attention or did you cover other events?

It covered everything, but later, as I progressed in my career, I focused on wedding photography. At first only in my city (Chihuahua) and then throughout Mexico, for destination weddings that span more than three days of preparation. These types of weddings are a lifestyle, since they involve a lot of movement and planning, since you have to travel to other places, such as the beach or the countryside.

What is wedding photography for you?

Actually, I see wedding photography from the romantic side, because it is a type of photos where you as a photographer will leave a very great memory for the couple, their family and their loved ones. When I do my work, I get emotional with my photos for the memory they will leave in later years.

What would be the 5 key points to start as a wedding photographer?

The first thing is to be authentic, not to try to be someone else, many people fall into imitation. Another would be to have discipline and be constant, so it is important to move social networks, and have a compendium of the most outstanding photographs. For example, I use Instagram more.

Also, it is important to be responsible, not to take it lightly, it is a very big commitment, since it constitutes a very special moment in the life of the couple; then it would be the constancy, for that reason there is to practice daily; have the job as soon as possible because that speaks well of a professional; finally always look for inspiration, watch documentaries, pieces, series and landscapes.

At the level of marketing and social networks, what advice would you give us for people who are starting in this world?

Being authentic, it is valid to be inspired by other photographers to find your vision, however, the idea is not to try to be someone else, since our DNA as a brand is what sets us apart. Another would be to have discipline and be constant, so it is important to move social networks, and have a portfolio of the most outstanding photographs. For example, I use Instagram more

How do your customers contact you?

Through word of mouth, since it is my main source of contact, that’s why I highly recommend doing personal marketing. In the same way, wedding planners usually recommend me.

What should the wedding photographer know before a session or event?

The first thing is to know where the wedding will take place, then the history of the couple, something about the family situation. Afterwards, identify the connection of the couple, therefore, I usually make a previous meeting with the couple to be able to know their ‘felling’.

What photos should not be missing at a wedding?

The photos yes or yes that should be are the family ones. Although they seem clichés and classics, they should not be missing in a wedding, since you will see them for your whole life: the groom with his mother, the bride embraced by his father, the bride and groom with their brothers and friends, among others. Later, others come like going out of church, dancing, kissing and partying with friends.

What are the trends in wedding photography?

Every two or three years the trend changes. Now weddings have become more editorial, the bride and groom want to get married outside of church, they want to do it on beaches, factories and more. Couples seek to have more options.
