‘Covid Photo Diaries’ Spanish photojournalists document coronavirus alarm status

“What is life like in confinement? What is this new daily life made of?These and other questions will try to answer in some way through the ‘Covid Photo Diaries’. It is a project promoted by eight Spanish photojournalists “which documents, in different parts of the country and on a daily basis, the state of alarm decreed due to the Covid pandemic19”

He had been at home for almost a week, seeing no one but Olmo, when the state of alarm was declared. Perhaps I did it because with seven months of pregnancy, the sense of responsibility – individual and collective – is sharpened. As the confinement reached the rest of my environment, I thought I was playing with advantage. I had already had time to minimally assimilate the uncertainty and a dizzying change of pace and direction in our lives. Since the daily walks around Madrid Río or Casa de Campo ended, our little balcony is my particular refuge abroad. I take advantage of the hours of sun to hang clothes, stretch my legs, leave my belly in the air or even peel the potatoes there. By the way, I chat with Teresa, my neighbor; an older lady who lives alone and before this crisis was already trying to cope with other more personal and existential ones that weigh on her over the years. He likes to vent and then listen to my spirits, it is a kind of unspoken pact that, ‘in times of coronavirus’, comfort even more. Bald Elm

The artists involved are the photographers Anna Surinyach, Isabel Permuy, Susana Girón and Judith Prat, and photographers José Colón, Manu Brabo, Javier Fergo and Bald Elm. The images can be seen through an Instagram account where they will publish daily (since March 17, 2020), an image of each photographer captured at home, in his neighborhood, in his city …

“It’s a difficult time for freelance photojournalists —They tell us— We have run out of orders and financial support, but the paradox is that now our work is even more necessary”

That is why they have launched to develop this photographic work “made from Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza, Gijón, Jerez de la Frontera and Seville“To pretend to go”building a visual account of a stage that is changing our lives” Definitely a great idea for which we congratulate you and that we will continue with interest.
