The first big Christmas party arrives that we are going to live with restrictions and fear of contagion of COVID-19. And the same is true in practically everyone, for example in Vilnius (Lithuania), where a national closure was decreed in the run-up to Christmas. Therefore, its inhabitants decided to share their Christmas spirit, from a safe distance, through its balconies, windows and terraces. A fact that the photographer Adas Vasiliauskas has portrayed in his project ‘Christmas on the Balconies‘.
His photographs show us from the air the outdoor areas of many houses in the Lithuanian city converted into new canvases on which to spread Christmas cheer and to be able to connect with neighbors in a safe and, at the same time, novel way.
If the thing is sounds, it is because a few months ago we already showed you this other project by the same author, in which this photographer (who normally dedicates himself to weddings) showed us how Lithuanians they showed their funniest face despite being locked up in their homes for the quarantine.
A project that had quite an impact in that area, making the photographer popular. Therefore, facing the prospect of a Christmas locked up at home, the municipality of Vilnius and the photographer invited their citizens to turn their balconies into a Christmas fairy tale in miniature.
The result was that dozens of households responded decorating their balconies with giant lollipops or sparkling deer and, of course, lots of Christmas lights. All this immortalized by Adas, who took out his drone again to capture some images that he has been publishing on social networks and an official website created for the occasion.
“After ‘Portraits of quarantine’ I wanted to create something festive but safe for the Christmas season —Adas says— By inviting people to decorate their balconies in the most original way possible, I wanted them to unleash their fantasies and see this as an opportunity to show the world that we can still celebrate and have fun, even in the context of a pandemic.”.
We hope that you too can celebrate them in the best possible way and, of course, we wish you merry christmas everyone!
