How long will a D850 last?

The shutter would usually just be replaced by a new module. The cost of replacement will be fairly constant over time, but the value of the camera will be going down, so there comes a point when repair is not practicable.

How do I know if my shutter is failing? You should see a tiny flicker at the center of your lens as the shutter goes up and down during the exposure. If you do not see a flicker, then your shutter is stuck. You can also remove your lens, set a slow shutter speed, and look into the camera’s body cavity while taking a picture or two.
