The battery should last for approximately one year under normal use. Check on other section with specifications of the battery when the camera is used in extremely cold conditions. Since the AE-1 is an electronically controlled camera, the shutter will not function without sufficient battery power.

Similarly, Is the Canon AE-1 fully manual? The AE-1 is a shutter priority mode only camera. It does not have a “traditional” manual setting. You can set the aperture and shutter independently but the light meter in the viewfinder will always point to the “proper” aperture the camera thinks it should be shooting at regardless of the current setting.

Does Canon AE-1 have flash? The versatile circuitry of the Canon AE-1 allows it to perform fully automatic flash photography with the Speedlite 155A especially designed for this camera. It is not necessary to set the shutter speed or the aperture on the camera as, up to now, flash photography required.

Beside above, Why is my Canon AE-1 beeping? The AE-1 PROGRAM’s battery check circuit not only tells you whether the battery is good but also how good it is. How do I check the battery on my AE-1?

The battery level is checked by pressing the battery check button on the top of the camera while watching the meter needle in the view- finder. If the meter needle rests below the index mark or 5.6 the battery level is ok. If the meter needle rests above the index mark ask the lab aide to replace the battery for you.

Will a Canon AE-1 lens fit a DSLR? The AE-1 uses the Canon FD lens mount. You could use the lenses with current Canon DSLRs but everything would be manual – manual focusing, metering by using manual shutter and aperture settings (with help from the internal metering of the DSLR) and you would need an adapter between the FD lenses and the EOS mount.
