While it is designed as a starter lens and leaves a lot to be desired, it is a good value when purchased in a kit. It is cheap, small and extremely light, has image stabilization and has a nice general purpose focal length range. I always look for the right focal length range first when selecting a lens to use.

Similarly, Is 18-55mm lens full frame? The Canon 18-55mm IS II is a compact and light standard zoom lens, featuring a versatile 3x zoom range with an angle of view that is comparable to a full-frame camera with a 29-88mm lens.

Is kit lens good enough? The good news is that, for a beginner, the level of blur you get with a kit lens is good enough to get started with. It will give you some decent-looking photos, particularly if you shoot a lot of portrait photography. All in all, the kit lens is a good lens to get started with.

What is the next lens after 18-55mm? Camera kits, in general, come with either one- or two-lens options. Single-lens versions usually have a wide-angle to normal or slight telephoto zoom lens (i.e. 18-55mm zoom). A second lens is most likely a farther-reaching telephoto (i.e. 55-200mm zoom).

What is the 18 135mm lens good for?

Unlike the 18-55mm version, the 18-135mm is able to handle decent level wildlife and sports photography. It’s also the perfect lens for shooting portraits with your Canon DSLR camera. You can even shoot wildlife close-ups like the image below with the 18-135.

What is wrong with kit lenses? However, a kit lens usually starts at a narrower aperture and gets even narrower the more you zoom. This can affect the lens performance in low light.
