In the article on the golden hours, I mentioned a very powerful tool for the photographer to know where and when will rise and set the sun, which is a great help in making exceptional pictures. Let’s discover this tool together thanks to a video.

Without a dedicated tool, determining the time of sunset and sunrise can be as simple as going to Météo France to see the ephemeris of the day. Except that for us photographers, this information without the direction of the sunset and without the context of the landscape is of little use. This information is much more valuable if we can get it in the right place. view directly.

That’s where The Photographer’s Ephemeris (TPE): this software gathers astronomical data but displays them directly on Google Maps. You can thus visualize how the sun is going to set and rise at any time. where in the world and at any date. Let’s take a closer look at the video:

(If you see badly, remember to put the video in full screen and click on “HD”)

Installing the software

TPE is available on iPhone via the AppStore ($12), and also for Windows, Mac and Linux. For computer, you need :

  1. Installing Adobe AIR
  2. Install TPE: the file is available on the official website.

I wish I had your opinion on this first video to improve the next ones : would you like them longer, shorter, slower, … ? Do not hesitate to leave a comment to help me improve what I will propose in the future, and also if you need more information!
