Sounds about right. Developing old film is mostly voodoo and luck, so the manufacturer’s recommendations for optimal development usually don’t apply after a few decades. Why does film expire?
Over time the chemicals on the film lose their potency and start to deteriorate. The silver halides in the films’ emulsion degrade and lose their sensitivity. As a result, colours will lose their vibrancy, and contrasts will fade and grain increases. Eventually, expired film becomes foggy and unusable.
Is it okay to leave film in a camera? . Leave it in for as long as you feel comfortable with. I regularly leave a roll of Velvia 50 in my camera for anything from 3 to 4 months.
Why can’t you put Polaroid film in your mouth?
One of the main “chemicals” used inside Polaroid film is alkaline. If it comes in contact with your skin or mouth, it can cause irritation or a burning sensation; however, it will not pose any immediate threat. You just need to wash it off with soap and water as soon as possible and you will be okay.
Do xrays ruin Polaroid film? Taken some photos? Don’t sweat it. Exposed film is totally fine through an X-ray, so you can pop it in either carry-on or checked luggage when you travel.
Will TSA ruin Polaroid film?
X-ray in airport scanners don’t affect film that is already developed – digital photos, slides, and developed pictures aren’t affected. But undeveloped film is sensitive to light because they are waiting to be exposed. The X-ray may penetrate and expose the film.
