Although I have little to do with the stunning theme parks of today, the known Coney Island Luna Park from New York is still a famous theme park a thousand times photographed. Of course, surely if you think of photos taken in a place like this, the idea of a few does not come to mind minimalist type photos like the ones he teaches us Daehyuk Im in his series ‘Up & Up’.
Because, no doubt, what we imagine of an amusement park are crowded images of people, shapes, lights and colors. And color is not lacking in his photos, but of course what this Korean photographer, videographer and graphic designer (native of Seoul) has recreated is far from that idea initial.
On the contrary, its minimalist images show us a world with hardly any elements but in some very balanced compositions, and with some bright colors and very well contrasted with those who intend to capture all the color of this place.
As Daehyuk tells us, his experience as a designer helped him develop certain skills and techniques that he applies in his photos. Some in which his passion for “photography that focuses on daily life with a minimalist look […] I use elements to maximize the color of structures or nature, which helps me convey emotions to viewers” From our point of view he succeeds, don’t you think?
